Man due remanded over cigarette find

A 32-year-old man has appeared at Newry Magistrates Court, charged in connection with possession of terrorist property.

Patrick Brian Seamus Dynes, from Granemore Park in Keady, is charged with possessing property for the purposes of terrorism.

The charge relates to the discovery of 15.5 million cigarettes worth around £1 million, in County Armagh in November 2005.

He was remanded in custody, and will reappear in court at a later date.

Meanwhile, around 200,000 contraband cigarettes have been recovered by police in County Tyrone.

The cigarettes were found by police after they stopped a car on the Loughfea Road in Cookstown, yesterday evening.

A woman, who was driving the car at the time was allowed to leave the scene pending further police inquiries.

Five men arrested following cigarette seizure
Five men have been arrested after more than 500,000 stolen or counterfeit cigarettes were seized by police in the Markets area of Belfast. The cigarettes were found when officers searched a number of cars in McAuley Street and Friendly Way on Thursday. A quantity of counterfeit DVDs were also seized.

Police Appeal After Arson Attack In Newtownards
Detectives have renewed an appeal for information following a deliberate arson attack at a vacant property in the Weaver's Grange area of Newtownards. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 November, 2023. Police and firefighters were called to the scene at around 12:40am.
