Two arrested over Devlin murder

Police investigating the murder of north Belfast schoolboy Thomas Devlin, have arrested two people.

The pair, a man and a woman, were arrested at separate locations in the north of the city earlier today and have been taken to the serious crime suite in Antrim for questioning.

Thomas Devlin, 15, was brutally murdered as he made his way home on the evening of Wednesday August 10 last year.

Thomas and two friends were attacked as they walked along Somerton Road from the direction of Fortwilliam Park towards the Lansdowne Road at 11.45pm. As they reached the rear gates of St Patrick's College two males, who had a dog, attacked them.

Thomas was stabbed five times in the back, and died from his injuries.

Earlier this week, police renewed their appeal for information about the murder.

A mobile police station was set up close to the site where Thomas was murdered, and a mobile advertising trailer was used over a wider area in a bid to prompt people's memories and consciences.

During the investigation, over 900 statements have been taken, more than 60 searches have been carried out and nine arrests have been made, however no one has ever been charged.
