Bomb detonator found in Maghaberry jail

A bomb detonator has been found during a search of Maghaberry Prison in Co Antrim.

The detonator was found during a search of cells in a prison block called Bush House. The searches were initiated after a bullet exploded in a toaster earlier in the week.

Two bullets were also found in the complex which resulted in visits being suspended from Tuesday.

Security sources say the detonator and bullet find may be linked to a campaign by loyalists and republicans who are demanding segregation.

The Prison Service said it was reviewing search procedures at the jail.

Former UDA leader Johnny Adair is just one of a number of high-profile inmates currently incarcerated at the jail.
