Man remanded over County Londonderry rape

A 31-year-old Slovakian man has appeared in Dungannon Magistrates court charged with the rape of a woman in County Londonderry at the weekend.

Marian Struhar, 31, from Lindsayville in Ballyronan, spoke only once to confirm his name.

A police officer told the court that the accused had pleaded not guilty when charged, however he believed that he could connect him to the crime.

Mr Struhar was remanded in custody and will re-appear before the same court next week.

The charge relates to a serious sexual assault on a 25-year-old woman in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, was found in a distressed condition in a lane leading to a caravan park in Ballyronan, close to the shores of Lough Neagh at around 4.30am.

Yesterday, a second man, who was arrested for questioning over the incident, was released without charge.
