Hong Kong arrest over Belfast murder

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in Hong Kong in connection with the murder of a woman in east Belfast eight years ago.

Officers from the PSNI Crime Operations Department travelled to Hong Kong to carry out the arrest, which is understood to be linked to the murder of 29-year-old Ho Mi Yi, a part-time waitress, on June 8, 1998.

The victim's body was discovered at a house in Isoline Street in the east of the city, and it was later revealed that she had been strangled.

The Chinese man was arrested by virtue of an extradition warrant, and will be brought back to Northern Ireland over the next few days.

A 36-year-old man was acquitted of the murder six years ago.
