Serious assault in Belfast city centre
Police have appealed for information in relation to a serious assault in Belfast city centre at the weekend.
An altercation broke out between two men outside the Ulster Hall in Bedford Street at around 6pm on Saturday evening, which resulted in a 56-year-old man being seriously injured.
The man remains in a critical condition in hospital.
It is understood that the area was busy at the time, and police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
They are especially keen to speak to a female Australian tourist who ran into a nearby restaurant and asked for someone to call the police.
One man has been arrested in connection with the assault and is currently being questioned by police.
Anyone with any information should contact detectives on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Two arrested following serious assault
Two men have been arrested in connection with a serious assault in Londonderry at the weekend. The 37-year-old victim was assaulted in the Rosemount area of the city at around 5am on Saturday. He is currently being treated at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where his condition is said to be critical.

Police have issued an appeal for information following a serious assault in north Belfast. A man is being treated in hospital after he was reportedly beaten by a number of men at a house on meadow Grove. According to police a number of masked me forced their way into the property and proceeded to beat the victim with suspected metal bars.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
