90 jobs to go at car components factory
Up to 90 jobs could be lost at a County Antrim car components factory, it has emerged.
Montupet management met with union representatives yesterday, after it was announced that the company would stop the production of alloy wheels at the Belfast plant due to a drop of around 25% in sales over the last few years.
However, 50 of the jobs could be saved if the company strikes a deal to start producing cylinder heads.
A spokesperson for Montupet today said that the situation is a result of the company's loss of market share with low cost countries entering into the market.
He added that the decision of Peugeot to close its assembly plant in Ryton, which represented 25% of Montupet's UK sales, also had a major impact on this situation.
Terry Collins from the Amicus union today told BBC news: "Any job losses, especially in manufacturing gives us grave concern.
"It continues to and will continue to come under increasing pressure and cost - it's extremely difficult."

Almost 200 jobs could go in Fermanagh
