Post Office attacked twice in 24 hours

Detectives in Newtownabbey are appealing for witness after a Co Antrim post office was targeted by robbers for the second time in 24 hours.

Two masked men, one armed with a handgun, the other with a crowbar, entered the premises in Ballynure last night.

The men ordered a staff member to open up a safe but when he refused to do so, he was forced to the ground with a gun to his head.

The robbers made more threats before leaving empty-handed. They escaped in a car which was last seen heading towards Carrickfergus. A third man is believed to have been in the vehicle as well.

The attack came less than 24 hours after an attempted ram-raid on the building.

A shutter and door where damaged as well as a cash machine, however no money was taken.
