Petrol bomb attack on County Antrim home

Police are investigating a suspected arson attack on a house in County Antrim yesterday evening.

Following a detailed forensic examination of the scene earlier today, police have confirmed that the remains of two petrol bombs were found.

The devices have since been removed for further examination.

The incident happened shortly before 11pm, when devices, originally believed to be fireworks, were thrown through a window of the property on the Moat Road in the Harryville area of Ballymena.

A number of people were in the house at the time, however all managed to escape unharmed.

Man questioned about 1988 murder
A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.

Armed robbery at County Down home
Detectives in County Down have appealed for information following an armed robbery yesterday evening. The incident happened at around 8.50pm, when up to six masked men, a number of whom were armed with shotguns, broke into a house on the Old Course Road area of Downpatrick.

Police advise shopkeepers to remain vigilant
Police have advised shopkeepers and staff to remain vigilant over the May Day weekend. It follows this year’s Easter holidays in which five incendiary type devices were placed in commercial premises in Belfast and Newtownards.
