Pipe-bomb made safe in Newtownabbey

Police in County Antrim have appealed for information following a bomb attack on a commercial premises in the early hours of this morning.

Army Technical Officers were dispatched to the Homebase store in Newtownabbey after receiving reports of a pipe-bomb type device being found.

The device, which was later described as “viable”, was made safe.

Detectives in Newtownabbey have asked for anyone with any information in connection with the incident, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.

Viable Pipebomb Made Safe In Newtownabbey
The PSNI are appealing for information after a viable pipebomb was thrown at a house in Newtownabbey. Police were called to the incident on Voltaire Gardens on Tuesday night and found the device in the garden of the house. A number of homes in the area were evacuated and Army Technical Officers (ATO) were called.

Viable Device Planted In Newtownabbey
Police have said the consequences of a security alert in Co Antrim which saw a viable device left in Newtownabbey could have been "devastating". Alliance Councillor Billy Webb hit out those behind the incident on Saturday 22 February. A viable device was made safe after being found in the Felden development off the Mill Road.
