Viable Device Planted In Newtownabbey
Police have said the consequences of a security alert in Co Antrim which saw a viable device left in Newtownabbey could have been "devastating".
Alliance Councillor Billy Webb hit out those behind the incident on Saturday 22 February.
A viable device was made safe after being found in the Felden development off the Mill Road. ATO attended the scene and removed the object for further examination.
Residents were evacuated to the Valley Leisure Centre for some time during the incident.
PSNI Inspector Patty said: "We're grateful to local people for their patience. Families had to leave their homes, having their afternoon disrupted, while we worked to make the area safe.
"Most importantly, its fortunate that no one was physically injured. The consequences of this attack could have been devastating."
Cllr Webb condemned those responsible, saying: "This sort of incident is carried out by people who represent absolutely nobody.
"They have no regard for the lives of anyone in the community and I appeal to them to stop."
Anyone with information is advised to contact non-emergency line 101 quoting reference 869 of 22/02/20.
