Staff held hostage during armed robbery

Detectives in Lisburn have appealed for information following an incident yesterday evening, in which four employees at a business were taken hostage and robbed.

The incident happened just after 5pm, when up to eight masked men, armed with a shotgun and handguns, entered a business on the Upper Dunmurry Lane.

The staff members were tied up and two of them had tape placed over their eyes and were forced into a vehicle.

The employees were driven to an unknown location and one was held in an outdoor garage or shed, while the other was taken into a house were he was threatened and repeatedly assaulted.

At least one of the robbers then returned to the business on the Upper Dunmurry Lane and stole an undisclosed sum of cash.

When he returned to the house, the robbers continued to threaten the employee and demanded that he tell them where they could find more money.

The two employees were then driven for around 10 to 15 minutes, before being left in the grounds of a derelict house on the Upper Springfield Road in west Belfast.

When the robbers drove off, they pair were able to raise the alarm and were taken to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

Police have asked for anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the Upper Dunmurry Lane area at around 5pm or anyone with any information in relation to the robbery, to contact them on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
