Man seriously assaulted in County Antrim
Police in County Antrim are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious assault on a man in the early hours of this morning.
The incident happened at around 3.15am, when two masked men forced their way into a flat in the Eglinton Street area of Portrush, pushed the girlfriend of the Portuguese occupant to the ground, before attacking him.
The attackers ransacked the property before making their escape.
Detectives investigating the incident are trying to establish a motive for the attack, and have not ruled out a link to a spate of race hate crimes in the area recently.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in County Londonderry, a man is currently being treated in hospital following a suspected sectarian attack yesterday evening.
The incident happened at around 6.30pm, in the Glebeview Park area of Garvagh, when the man was attacked by a gang of up to four men.
The victim sustained injuries to his head and face, a collapsed lung and bruising to his body during the incident.
Four men have since been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They are currently assisting police with their inquiries.
Anyone who may have witnessed either attack or who may have any information which could be of use to the police investigations, are asked to contact detectives on 0845 600 8000, or anonymously on the Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111.
