Meridio MD named IT award winner
The managing director of award-winning document management company Meridio Limited has been named IT Professional of the Year Award by the British Computer Society (Belfast Branch).
Dr Brian Baird was recognised for his major contribution in the advancement of the Information Technology industry within the BCS Northern Ireland Region.
Commenting on the award, Chairman of BCS (Belfast Branch), Ian Stuart, said: “Brian Baird has shown great commitment, tenacity and enthusiasm in promoting Northern Ireland’s IT industry. The Belfast Branch feels he is a worthy winner and an excellent model for all our aspiring IT entrepreneurs.”
Welcoming the award, Dr Baird, a former managing director of Fujitsu Services in Ireland, said: “This is a real honour which does not just reflect on me but also on my colleagues in Meridio Limited. Our product, Meridio has now won national Document Management awards in the last three years. Other colleagues in local IT companies have also produced world-class products and services against a background of very poor market conditions. Given the challenges of the past year, the local ICT sector and government now need to work together more closely than at any other time.”
Announcing the winner, Ed Vernon, MD and founder of BIC Systems and IT Professional 2002 said Dr Baird had been one of Northern Ireland’s "outstanding professionals" for many years and his award would be universally applauded.
