Investigation over teens ‘abandoned’ in Downpatrick
An investigation has been launched into claims that a group of teenagers had been abandoned in the County Down countryside while on a half-term holiday from England.
Seven teenagers from County Durham, aged between 12 and 14, were allegedly told to make their own way back to a hostel in Downpatrick, after they were accused of misbehaving.
The youths claimed that last Wednesday at around 9.30pm they were told to get ready to go out, before being dropped off in heavy rain.
They also said they were left to walk around for an hour in the dark before they called at a house, and the homeowner contacted police.
Durham County Council, which is responsible for the youth group, issued a statement saying they will be fully investigating the matter.

Pharmacist Sentenced For Drug Offences
A 27-year-old pharmacist from Belfast has been sentenced to 180 hours of community service for unlawfully possessing and stealing controlled prescription drugs. Adam Hanna pleaded guilty to charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1969. The offences took place at a North Belfast pharmacy between January and March 2024.

Justice Minister Increases Upper Limit Of Small Claims Court
Justice Minister Naomi Long has announced an increase in the maximum value of claims that can heard in the Small Claims Court, up from £3,000 to £5,000. The increase was brought forward following consideration of responses to a public consultation on increasing the general civil jurisdiction of the county court.

The upper limit for claims which can be heard in the small claims court is to be increased, Justice Minister Naomi Long has announced. From 3 October 2022, the maximum value of a claims which can be heard in the small claims court will increase from the current level of £3,000 to £5,000.
