Four arrested following armed robbery

Four arrests have been made following the armed robbery of a cash in transit van in Belfast.

The four men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery on the Falls Road near the Broadway junction just before noon this afternoon.

One man made off with the cash box, and was arrested along with another suspect at the scene. The cash box and a knife were also recovered.

A man and child were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Another man was treated at the scene for shock.

It is understood that two of the men made off in the vehicle which then collided with several cars in their attempts to escape. They were subsequently arrested.

Traffic is currently congested on the M1 and the surrounding area.

Police have advised motorists on the M1 citybound to exit at Saintfield in Lisburn to avoid long delays building up.
