Survey reveals NI has highest rate of churchgoers
A new survey has found that Northern Ireland has the highest number of churchgoers in the United Kingdom.
Christian charity Tearfund’s survey has found that 45% of the population regularly attend church services every month, compared with Wales having the least with only 12% attendance.
It also found 30% of Northern Ireland went to church weekly, and of those surveyed 41% said they never went.
Two thirds of the population of the UK have no connection with any church, however nearly three million people said they would attend if they were given the “right invitation”.
In the report, ‘Churchgoing in the UK’, it said: “Northern Ireland is very different from the rest of the UK in that 81% are Christians and only 0.4% belong to other religions.”
It also said the province has “only 44% either de-churched or non-churched.”
