Royal accolade for enterprising NI business
The annual winners and recipients of The Queen's Awards for Enterprise were announced on Saturday 21 April, the Queen's birthday.
They are the UK's most prestigious accolades for business-related achievement and a total of 119 business Awards and 11 individual Awards have been conferred this year.
In Northern Ireland, clinical diagnostic equipment manufacturer Randox laboratories Ltd of Crumlin, Co Antrim has been awarded their fifth Queens Award, for international Trade.
Richard Lambert, Director-General of the CBI, said: "Winning a Queen's Award for Enterprise is a tremendous achievement and this year's winners are very worthy recipients that reflect the strength and diversity of UK plc.
"Whether they have been recognised for their successes in international trade, innovation or sustainable development, all are great examples of how enterprise and acumen can improve a business and drive its success.
"All the winners should take great pride in their Award. They will provide inspiration for other businesses to follow in their footsteps and give the United Kingdom the cutting edge it needs to succeed in the 21st century."
Doug Richard (an American citizen) who, amongst other achievements, was a 'dragon' on the first series of BBC TV's Dragons' Den, was made an honorary recipient of The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion in 2006.
He said: "Receiving a Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion last year was an unexpected honour. I felt rewarded for the help I give to young entrepreneurs. To be recognised and acknowledged for an activity I love has given me encouragement to continue my efforts."
