Kelis to play the Waterfront Hall
Sultry songstress Kelis will be bringing her “milkshake”, sassy vocals and, of course, inimitable sound to Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on June 7.
Kelis is best known for a number of singles, including her breakthrough hit about a scorned lover ‘Caught Out There’, and the teasing ‘Milkshake’. She has always been in her own league, a singer and entertainer that others look to for inspiration.
That reality will certainly continue with her fourth album, the masterful ‘Kelis Was Here’, a passionate window into her moods, tastes and emotions, all supplied by some of the most innovative, addictive sonics music has to offer.
Enjoying her life has been Kelis’ priority for as long as she can remember. Fortunately, the Harlem native was encouraged by her parents to express herself and chase her dreams. Her late father was a jazz musician and her mother is a fashion designer. Having such creative, artistically inclined people as her parents and having access to other artists and musicians during her formative years, helped Kelis develop her steely attitude and independent mindstate. “Part of our growing up was to just be what you wanted to be and take it there”, she says.
“I think I brought an element of fun to it all, a tongue-in-cheek kitschiness”, Kelis says. “I don’t take myself too seriously. It’s enough to where it makes it exciting, new and kind of experimental. I think I’ve been one that’s taken chances, that’s stood out on a ledge and encouraged other artists to do the same, I hope”.

Sparkling Rachel Stevens is inviting everyone to “come and get it” when she lights up Belfast’s Christmas season next week. The chart-topping singer will join the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Wallace Browne, to switch on the city’s Christmas lights next Tuesday evening (November 22).

Eleven posts at Belfast's Waterfront Hall are to be relocated after Belfast City Council today revealed efficiency plans for the venue. The move is part of plans to increase opportunities for national and international conference planners and concert and event promoters.

Orange Hall Attack Being Treated As A 'Hate Crime'
Police are treating an attack on an Orange Hall in Crumlin, Co Antrim, as a hate crime. The PSNI received a report that a bin was on fire in the Main Street area of the town at around 4.30am on Thursday, 12 July. Graffiti was daubed on a wall and door of the memorial hall. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
