SOCA has “vital role to play” in NI

The Serious Crime Agency (SOCA) has a vital role to play in helping to eradicate the harm and dangers posed by organised crime in Northern Ireland, Paul Goggins MP said.

The Security Minister and Chair of the Organised Crime (OCTF), was speaking following the publication of SOCA’s Annual Report for 2006/7.

He said: “In its first year of operation SOCA has already formed excellent working relationships with other law enforcement agencies in Northern Ireland and in particular with PSNI. This has had a very positive effect and I expect these relationships to grow over the next year and for further successes to be achieved.

“SOCA has taken a full and active role in the work of OCTF and its expertise and assistance as we tackle organised crime across Northern Ireland has been invaluable. That role will be further strengthened when SOCA merges with the Assets Recovery Agency on 1 April 2008."
