Lisburn KFC fined over undercooked food

A Northern Ireland Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet has been fined for selling undercooked food.

The KFC franchise in Lisburn’s Governor’s Road was fined a total of £9,000 after a customer complained about undercooked chicken last April.

The company that runs the KFC outlets in Northern Ireland was taken to court following a customer’s complaint about the undercooked “popcorn” chicken that was sold on the premises.

Herbel Restaurant’s was fined for breaching food safety laws on three counts and it is among the highest penalties imposed in the province.

A spokesperson for KFC GB Ltd said: “We wish to assure our customers that this was an isolated incident. KFC has procedures in place to ensure that all products are properly cooked.

“Since the incident in April 2006 all restaurant personnel have been retrained, and from April 2006 we have had no other complaints.”

Herbel had also been fined £12,000 in September 2005 for selling undercooked food at its Newtownards Road premises.

The court heard the company had six previous convictions.
