Pensioners homes targeted by robbers

Two pensioners homes in Belfast have been targeted in what police believe are related incidents last night.

In the first attack, which took place at around 5.30pm on Thursday, an elderly woman in her eighties who answered the door to her home in Orangefield Crescent was pushed aside by two men who forced their way into the house. They then searched rooms in the house before leaving, but police say that nothing was taken.

In a second similar burglary incident, at around 6.10pm on Thursday, an elderly couple also in their eighties were forced to lie on the floor of their kitchen after two men gained entry to their house. The men, who forced their way in past the pensioner as he opened the door, ransacked the house. Police said that the men made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

Police have issued a description of one of the men. He is about 25-years-old, six feet tall, clean shaven with short dark hair and is of medium build. He was wearing a grey shirt, blue jeans and heavy black shoes, and he spoke with a strong southern Irish accent.

Police have appealed for anyone with information on these attacks to contact detectives at either Castlereagh or Strand town police stations.
