Belfast Solicitors To Assist In McCann Case

A Belfast legal firm has apparently been approached by the legal team of Madeleine McCann's parents to assist in the case.

Kevin R Winters solicitors, who also defended Omagh bomb suspect Sean Hoey, were reported to be meeting with Gerry and Kate McCann's defence team in the coming weeks.

Allegations that the toddler's DNA was found in the boot of their hire car weeks after her disappearance has prompted the move.

Mr Winters told the Belfast Telegraph that: "One of the central issues at the minute in the McCann case relates to LCN DNA. We will continue to assist and help them concerning LCN DNA."

It is understood that LCN (Low Copy Number) DNA procedures were relied on by Portuguese authorities to test the McCanns' hire car.

A spokesperson for the McCann Family later said that there were no plans to travel to Belfast to discuss the case.
