City Airport Hotel Planned
A hotel is to be built at George Best Belfast City Airport.
Although likely to be opposed by local residents, who already have said they are unhappy with news that the airport is considering an extension to its runway, an announcement is expected to be made before Christmas.
It is understood the airport wants to build the hotel close to the main terminal building, possibly on the site of the short stay car park.
The project is still on the drawing board and no planning application has yet submitted.
Meanwhile, the airport's plans for expansion - including the extended runway - are currently the subject of a judicial review.
The local residents from this heavily populated area of east Belfast have gone to court to oppose plans to increase passenger numbers and are unhappy that while the airport expects to handle about two million passengers this year, business will be again be boosted next week with the launch of new flights by Ryanair.
