Police come under attack in east Belfast
Police were attacked last night following a fresh night of violence in east Belfast.
Gangs of youths clashed with security forces after police moved in to the area following attacks on homes in loyalist Cluan Place and nationalist Clandeboye Drive.
Residents in both areas blamed each other for the attacks.
The police said they were investigating reports of petrol bombs and other missiles being thrown at houses in both areas when officers were attacked with nuts and bolts as they tried to lessen tension between the communities in the area.
Sinn Fein councillor Joe O'Donnell said houses in Clandeboye Drive were severely damaged by "a barrage of missiles".
However, residents of Cluan Place said blast bombs had exploded near their homes.
