Man in hospital after 'barbaric' paramilitary attack
A 42-year-old man is recovering in hospital after a paramilitary-style attack in Co Tyrone last night.
At around 8.30pm a group of up to 13 masked men forced their way into a house at Carlton Drive in Strabane and shot the man in both elbows and both knees.
He was also beaten and suffered cuts and bruises to the head.
Police inspector Bertie Gault said: "Any sensible person will consider it a barbaric attack."
The victim's partner and two children were also in the house at the time but were uninjured in the attack.
The SDLP assembly member for the area, Eugene McMenamin condemned the attack, saying that there was no place for paramilitary "kangaroo courts" in society.
He said: "This barbaric act ought to be condemned by all right-thinking people. I don't know the logic behind this attack, but the sooner we get the Good Friday Agreement back on track these types of incidents will be eradicated."
Elsewhere, a 39-year-old man was shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style attack in west Belfast.
The shooting occurred at about 7.30pm on Wednesday on the Shankill Road.
