£42m Marina Village Development Unveiled For Larne

A major tourism infrastructure project is being planned for the Antrim coast town of Larne with ambitious plans unveiled for a £42.5m marina 'village'.

As well as a 200-berth marina and an improved promenade, the scheme by Larne Marina Company includes a 16-bedroom hotel and 121 houses.

Ten years in the pipeline, the original proposals have now been amended and are going out to public consultation.

East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson said the promenade was an asset and any plans should be "sensitively developed".

Mr Wilson said: "Having studied the amended plans for the proposed Larne Marina Village, it seems clear to me that Larne could greatly benefit from this £40m asset that creates major new tourism opportunities for the area."

A planning application for the development of a marina in this area was first submitted in 1999.

However, Larne Marina Company, has fully revised the original proposals which have since been presented to Larne Borough Council.

Bill Liddle, Director of the Larne Marina Company, said the proposals would regenerate the waterfront.

"We have amended the original scheme which takes account of all the previous issues and we are seeking to work with all stakeholders to get the best result for Larne.

"By working together we can bring something new, innovative and inspirational to regenerate the area," he commented.
