NIO spy suspect released on bail
One of the four people arrested in connection to IRA intelligence gathering at the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) has been released on bail.
Mother-of-two Fiona Farrelly, 46, was originally charged following police raids on Sinn Fein's Stormont offices and six homes in north and west Belfast on October 4.
During a raid on her home, police seized a laptop computer that contained names, addresses, and ranks of prison service staff.
However, at yesterday's hearing at Belfast Crown Court, it was revealed that Mrs Farrelly's fingerprints could not be found on the laptop, which was recovered from a cupboard in her west Belfast home.
A Crown lawyer said that when arrested Mrs Farrelly said she had been given a bag by a man named Kieran, who asked her to keep it in a safe place.
Mrs Farrelly claimed that she was unaware of the man's surname until subsequent press reports following her arrest.
The man in question was Kieran Kearney, one of the other three people arrested in connection with the raids.
When charged at the time of her arrest Mrs Farrelly also denied being a member of the Provisional IRA.
Police said they opposed the granting of bail because they believed she may attempt to warn potential suspects or destroy evidence in an effort to obstruct the ongoing investigation.
However, Mr Justice Sheil ruled that Mrs Farelly be released on her own bail of £250 and two independent sureties of £250.
She has also been ordered to reside at her home address, to have no contact with any of the co-accused and to report once a week to a local police station.
Mrs Farrelly is expected to appear before the court again on November 8.
