Blaze Alert At Fire Tragedy Hotel 'Suspicious'

Police investigating an overnight fire at a derelict hotel in County Londonderry - where a firefighter died in an earlier blaze - are treating the blaze as suspicious.

More than 30 firefighters tackled the fire at the Gorteen House Hotel on the Roe Mill Road, Limavady. It was discovered at around 7.30pm yesterday evening.

A section of the Roe Mill was last night closed to traffic during the incident. It has been reopened since.

The fire, which has lay derelict for about 18 months, saw tragedy in 2003 when part-time firefighter Joe McCloskey lost his life after he fell through the roof of a storeroom when attending to a fire at the hotel.
