Home grown produce is best says MLA
East Antrim MLA Roy Beggs has urged people to back a campaign to support Ulster produce.
The UUP Assembly member was speaking as the Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association launched its first ever festival this week.
Mr Beggs, who was one of a number of MLAs who attended the launch at Stormont, said: “It is vitally important that Ulster people make the effort to support home grown produce.
“We should all be more aware of the importance of the sector and be vibrant about the excellence of the food and drink produced in the Province.
“This initiative is vital too for the agriculture industry which has suffered such difficult times over the past few years. Any effort individuals can give to boosting home produce will ultimately help the local industry.”
As the Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association unveiled its first ever festival this week, it also revealed that in future it is to become known simply as NI Food and Drink.
The decision was taken after the body brought in consultants to give the organisation a new image. It now plans to turn its attention to raising awareness of its efforts among the general public.
The organisation seeks to improve the competitiveness of NI food and drink production and processing companies.

Coca-Cola Creates 100 New Jobs
A soft drink giant will open new offices in County Louth and subsequently create 100 new jobs for Ireland. The US multinational Coca-Cola has said it is creating 100 jobs in Drogheda, 40 of which have recently been filled. The €200m facility will be officially opened next month.
