Pensioner tricked into letting thieves into house

A north Belfast pensioner was burgled yesterday after thieves tricked their way into her home.

The 82-year-old woman was in her Crumlin Road home when a man came to the door at around 2pm. He told the pensioner that he was investigating a water leak and was shown into the kitchen. He was then joined by a second man.

A couple of hours after the men left, the woman found that there was a substantial amount of money missing from her handbag.

The first man was described as being in his 20s, of slim build, with short black hair and wearing a white shirt and black tie.

The second man was also in his 20s, with short dark hair and he was clean shaven.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives at Antrim Road on 028 9065 0222.
