Bush Visit To Close Belfast Airspace

Next week's much anticipated visit to Northern Ireland by US President George Bush is effectively 'closing the skies' over the capital.

Tight security plans are to be put in place for his visit to Belfast on Monday with the Stormont estate to be closed off for nearly 48 hours, as well as there being a strictly enforced no-fly zone exclusion order put in place.

There will also be no NI Assembly session or any of the Stormont committees in session, and for those politicians who do make it in will all then have to stay in the building for the duration of the President's visit.

The whole estate, including the Mo Mowlam Children's Park, will be closed to the public on Sunday and Monday as well and only Assembly and some essential staff will be able to get into the main Stormont building.

In addition, there is expected to be widespread traffic disruption on Monday, as well as a full helicopter exclusion zone in place in the skies above Belfast.

It is expected that protests from anti-war demonstrators will be held over the weekend.
