Victims' Groups Boosted
A cash fillip is set to directly aid work being done with the victims of NI's three decades of violence.
Groups that are working with victims and survivors of the Troubles are to receive direct Government funding as part of the NI Executive budget of £36m that was set aside to help address the issues of the past.
Now almost £3m of that sum will be given to groups dealing directly with victims and survivors.
NI First Minister Peter Robinson said it was "a clear message to all victims and survivors that their needs are a priority for this government".
"This package represents unprecedented levels of funding to the sector which will enable good work to continue and additional work to commence."
Under the interim strategy announced on Tuesday, funding is also being doubled for the Community Relations Council's development grant scheme, which supports groups and other voluntary organisations working with victims and survivors.
The Northern Ireland Memorial Fund will also receive an extra £900,000.
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said: "We have heard at first hand the difficulties these groups face and we have acted.
"We have sought to increase the funding available and to ensure that there is a smooth transition between the (European Union's) Peace II and Peace III support packages."
