Minister announces further funding for support groups
Victims Minister Angela Smith has today announced a further round of funding for support groups at a victims' sector conference.
The conference, 'A Shared Practice - Victims Work in Action', which was organised by the Community Relations Council, brings together 130 delegates representative of groups working with victims and survivors of the conflict.
Speaking in Limavady today, the Minister said: "I know how much your work is valued for the services you provide - services that simply cannot be accessed elsewhere. So I can say today that there will be a further round of funding to enable the good work that is being done to continue and be built upon."
While details of the funding have yet to be announced, the financial commitment should allow those involved with the unique work of victims/survivors groups to continue to develop the services they provide.
Today's conference aimed to facilitate discussions for delegates to focus on current issues that affect them, such as support for carers, young people and volunteers.

£2 million from the Carrier Bag Levy is to be distributed to Environmental Groups suffering funding cuts. Environment Minister Mark H Durkan confirmed the money will be used to deliver environmental priorities. The Minister has developed a three-pronged plan to allocate the money. £1m will be made available for a Natural Environment Fund.

Victims' Groups Boosted
A cash fillip is set to directly aid work being done with the victims of NI's three decades of violence. Groups that are working with victims and survivors of the Troubles are to receive direct Government funding as part of the NI Executive budget of £36m that was set aside to help address the issues of the past.
