Derry Housing Boost Likely
Around 25 apartments could soon boost the local property market in Londonderry if planning permission is granted.
Plans for the apartment block - to be located at Duncreggan Road - were received at Derry City Council's Guildhall (pictured) last week, referring to a site at the corner of Meadowbank Avenue and Duncreggan Road, includes four currently vacant three-storey houses.
The new plans include demolishing the houses and replacing them with a block of two-bedroom apartments complete with basement parking.
The Derry Journal has reported that local architects firm, Sean McLaughlin, outlined the plans in an application sent to the DoE Planning Service.
A statement by the firm, attached to the planning application, said: "This is an opportunity to promote urban regeneration and contribute to the vitality of the area as this large site lends itself to a greater density of development.
"This is an imaginative and inventive project respecting local character, tradition and human scale while achieving modern sustainable living standard within 21st century contemporary setting which incorporates systems to reduce the carbon footprint of the scheme as a whole."

Tougher planning rules on sustainable residential development in urban areas have been announced by the Irish Minister for the Environment, John Gormley. The proposed planning guidelines will force developers and local authorities to build better quality homes in developments with abundant green spaces, close to shops and schools.

Appeal Following Arson Attack In L'Derry
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information following a serious arson attack in the Clon Dara area of L'Derry on Saturday, 23 November. Shortly before 8.20pm, police received a report that an accelerant had been used to ignite the front door and letterbox of a house in the area.

Three Arrested in L'Derry For Drug Offences
Police in L'Derry have arrested three people and seized drugs worth an estimated £600. The arrests were made following a proactive policing operation in the city. On Monday, 18 November, officers observed suspicious behaviour from a 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in the Strand Road area.

University Of Ulster To Appeal Planning Decision
The University of Ulster is planning to appeal the decision to prevent it from building homes on the site of its Jordanstown Campus. In August, the council rejected the planning application to develop 600 homes. Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell said the action is regrettable and it was turned down on its merits.
