Gunmen open fire on CCTV camera in north Belfast
Police have said that gunshots were fired at a security camera in north Belfast on Tuesday evening.
A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that a Closed Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) had been hit by "high-velocity gunfire". At around the same time, an attempt was made to set fire to the camera by nationalists in the area.
The camera, at Estoril Park, close to the nationalist Ardoyne area, is near the point where an Orange Order parade will pass on Friday. Yesterday evening tyres were piled around the base of the camera pole and set alight.
Earlier, nationalists held a protest against CCTV cameras in the area.
Sinn Fein have described the cameras as "spy posts" and dismissed PSNI claims that the CCTV installations will be instrumental in cracking down on interface violence in the area.
A Sinn Fein councillor for the area, Margaret McClenaghan, said: "These cameras simply mean more collusion to us and this community has suffered badly enough from collusion."
However, Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan has defended the positioning of the cameras saying they would benefit the entire community.

Man In His 20s Dies In Drumbo Tractor Crash
A man has died following a road traffic crash in Drumbo, Co Down. The victim, aged in his 20s, was a passenger in a green John Deer tractor that is believed to have left the Back Road shortly after 9.15pm on Friday, 06 July. A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving causing death in relation to the incident.

PSNI Make Speed Detector Van Investment
The Police in Northern Ireland have invested in 10 new speed camera detector vans. The vehicles equipped with digital technology are set to make more than £1m. Civilians will now run the speed camera detector vans which had been operating at a loss of £0.5m, due to the manpower required by officers to carry out the work.
