Drip Feed On Water Charges

NI First Minister, Peter Robinson, has confirmed that he wants to further delay the introduction of water charges. They were to have been introduced next spring, but Mr Robinson has now said families could not afford water bills on top of soaring household costs. However, he warned that deferment would not be sustainable in the long term. NI Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy confirmed that he has been in discussion about the matter.

Crash Arrest

A man has been arrested following a car crash near the Glenshane Pass in Co Londonderry. He was driving one of two cars involved in an accident near Maghera at about 1.30am on Sunday. It happened near a filling station on the main Belfast to Derry Road. The injuries of three people taken to hospital are not thought to be life-threatening.

Tiger Kidnapping Charges

Three men have now been charged in connection with a so-called 'tiger' kidnapping in Belfast after the brother of a bank worker was targeted by robbers last Thursday morning. His sister was forced to hand over a substantial sum of money taken from the bank to allow her brother to be freed. However, the cash was later recovered in police searches in north Belfast and three men aged, 27, 28 and 34 have since been charged with kidnapping and robbery and will appear in court in Belfast later.
