200 Come Forward To Help Solve Quigley Murder

A reported 200 witnesses have offered to help police investigating the murder of pregnant mother of four Jean Quigley, a court in Donegal has learned.

The Londonderry woman was murdered at her home in July.

Gardai have since charged Stephen Cahoon, from Harvey Street in Derry, with the killing.

Mr Cahoon is currently remanded in police custody.

The large numbers emerged at Ballyshannon District Court hearing today, when police revealed they are to interview 200 witnesses in the case.

The scale of the investigation means it could therefore take up to two months before a 'book of evidence' is served on the accused.

A Garda sergeant told the court 27 biological samples are still to be analysed and 76 CCTV recordings, mobile phone records and financial records have to be studied.

Mr Cahoon’s defence conceded it was a complex case but stressed urgency - due to difficulties experienced by the accused finding someone to stand as bail surety in the Republic.

The accused opted to be tried in Ireland following his arrest in the Donegal.

The case was adjourned until 19 November.
