Seven-year-old stabbed during robbery bid

A seven-year-old boy has been stabbed in the arm during an attempted armed robbery in north Belfast.

The incident happened in the New Lodge area between 8.30-9pm on Monday night.

The child was stabbed after he was confronted by a group of other children, aged around 11, who demanded money.

The boy suffered a stab wound to his left arm and a gash to his leg.

Meanwhile a 19-year-old shop assistant was stabbed during an armed robbery in south Belfast last night.

Shortly before 8pm, two men entered the Stewarts Winebarrel on the Lisburn Road and attempted to steal beer and money from the till.

A struggle ensued and the staff member was stabbed in the left arm, twice in the left leg and in the right hand. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The pair then made off with a sum of cash. They’re described as in their late teens, both wore baseball caps, while one wore a light blue shirt and a Reebok hooded top.

Anyone with information on either of these attacks is urged to contact detectives at Musgrave Street on 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
