Panto Dame Stamps Approval On Royal Mail At Christmas
Pantomime is traditional at Christmas and now some favourite pantomime characters are to take centre-stage on another tradition at Christmas - on millions of Royal Mail's Christmas stamps.
Taking time out from rehearsals and getting up close to one of Royal Mail's postmen, Northern Ireland's very own Pantomime dame May McFettridge - who is starring in 'her' 18th Grand Opera House pantomime in the title role of Mother Goose - launched the stamps with the help of Belfast postman, Tim Hamill, (pictured).
On sale from 4 November there are six Pantomime stamps in the set.
They are available in standard definitive size, except for the 1st and 2nd large stamps, where the 1st and 2nd images are repeated on the larger format stamps.
Stepping forward on the 2nd Class stamps are the stereotypically burly bullies from Cinderella, the Ugly Sisters, who are joined, as if by magic, on the 1st Class stamps by Aladdin's Genie.
Higher value they may be, but there's some low cunning at work on both the 50p and 81p stamps where Peter Pan’' Captain Hook and Snow White's Wicked Queen are seen in typically evil mood.
This year, Royal Mail is expecting Christmas postings to reach over two billion items, which include 750 million Christmas cards.
The busiest day for Royal Mail is predicted to be Monday 15 December when around 123 million items enter the system, compared to an average daily figure of around 80 million.
