£25m Antrim Asda Store Gets Go-Ahead
Asda is to open a £25m store at Junction One, the retailer has confirmed.
The investment will create 400 sales jobs, in addition to much-needed construction contracts.
Stocking food, fashion, household goods and electrical equipment, the Antrim supermarket will have flagship store status.
It will be Northern Ireland's largest Asda store.
Asda Property Communications Manager Philip Bartram said: "Asda has already shown its commitment to help consumers through the harsh economic climate by announcing a wide range of price cuts in its stores.
"This investment comes at a time when unemployment figures in Northern Ireland are beginning to show the impact of recent economic difficulties, particularly in the retail sector."
The 55,000 square foot site will encompass a 650 capacity car park.
According to Asda, 88% of the local community supported plans for the new store.
"Asda anticipates creating at least 400 new jobs as part of their plans for the £25 million store and will work closely with local job agencies setting up a local employment partnership programme to target job seekers," added Mr Bartram.
