Carrick To Rock With The Quo

Rock and roll giants, and a famous blues pianist are soon to hit the stage in historic Carrickfergus.

This summer, as part of a series of events being organised to mark the 60th anniversary of Carrickfergus Borough Council, Status Quo (pictured here) and Jools Holland are to take joint top billing and will be performing over two days along with his Jools' own Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

They will take it in turns to headline the concerts.

As used successfully by the BBC for its national 'Proms In The Park' event, the Norman castle is to be a dramatic backdrop for the event.

Jools Holland takes to the stage on Friday 28 August, while Status Quo will perform the following night.

Status Quo is one of the longest lasting bands in British music history, forming in the 1960s.

The band has sold more than 100 million records around the world and famously opened the Live Aid concert in 1985.

Jools Holland first found fame through the band Squeeze.

He has also fronted a variety of music programmes including The Tube, Later and his New Years Eve show - Hootenanny.

Other acts on the bill include Dave Edmunds, Ruby Turner, The Saw Doctors and Hayseed Dixie.

Tickets go on sale on Friday 27 February from all usual outlets and from www.liveatthecastle.co.uk
