Woodward Rules Out Controversial Victims Payment
Northern Ireland Secretary of State Shaun Woodward (pictured) has said he will not progress controversial proposals by the Eames/Bradly group to pay out £12,000 to families bereaved during the Troubles.
The group, established to find a way forward from the province's troubled past, came under strong criticism for its recommendation, with many victims voicing outrage.
Former clergy men Lord Eames and Denis Bradly said all loved ones left behind should be entitled to a £12,000 pay out, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the loss.
A move which has been reject by NI Secretary Mr Woodward, who said it was clear the "time is not right for such a recognition payment".
"I have decided however we proceed on this report, and there are many things I would like to consider in it, I do not think I will be proposing that this particular recommendation is one we should go forward on," he told the BBC.
Lord Eames and Mr Bradly will today appear before the House of Commons Northern Ireland Select Committee in London.

£17m To Support Pensioners Affected By Winter Fuel Payment Changes
Communities Minister Gordon Lyons has announced a £17 million fund to support pensioners who have lost eligibility for the Winter Fuel Payment due to recent UK government changes. The one-off £100 payment will be automatically issued to an estimated 250,000 pensioners in around 170,000 households before the end of March 2025.

Omicron Hospitality Payment Package 'Falls Short'
The Executive's Omicron Hospitality Payment package does not support all businesses affected by the current restrictions, the Green Party NI's Rachel Woods MLA has said.
