Two firms announce jobs cuts in Portadown
A total of 100 people are facing redundancy at two firms in Portadown.
Seagoe Ceramics based in Portadown's Carn Industrial Estate is set to close with the loss of around 70 jobs. At its height the factory, which has been running for over 50 years, employed hundreds of workers.
Redundancies were also announced at the Universal Meats Company plant which is based in the Carn Industrial estate in Portadown. The firm is shedding 35 jobs, blaming difficult market conditions.
Other recent jobs losses in the area include those at the Parcelforce depot based in Carn.
In March it was announced that three Parcel Force depots, north Belfast, Londonderry and Portadown, would close leaving just one operating Parcelforce depot in Belfast’s Harbour Industrial Estate.
The cuts were part of a three-year £1.2 billion rescue plan rolled out by Consignia.
