Larne Blaze Victims Back Home
Residents have now returned to a fire-hit building in the port town of Larne after an overnight fire forced evacuation.
The building was declared safe early this morning and the ten people who were led to safety following the overnight fire were able to get back to their flats.
The blaze broke out during the early hours of Thursday morning at the Mill House Apartments in the Co Antrim town.
Fire personnel were called to the scene and dealt with the outbreak, which is believed to have started in store rooms in the apartment block.
One resident caught up in the fire - who is confined to his bed - was accompanied by fire officers to reassure him while the premises were fully ventilated and the smoke removed.
Fire & Rescue Station Commander John Bacon said: "The officer in charge of the first attendance, realising the gravity of the situation, had two firefighters stay with the man to comfort him and to be there in an emergency should he have to be removed form the building quickly."
Mr Bacon added that the fire precautions within the building were "sufficient to prevent excessive smoke from entering the flats".

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Derry Apartments Wrecked In Early Morning Blaze
A number of redeveloped Derry apartments have been left in ruins after being struck by an early morning blaze yesterday. The newly renovated homes are believed to have been the victim of an arson attack. Fire crew battled with the fire at the four-story building on Crawford Street after midnight.
