Fish factory to close with loss of 150 jobs
Around 150 jobs are to go with the closure of Young's Blue Crest fish factory in County Down.
The Kilkeel based company, one of Northern Ireland's biggest scampi processors, is planning to re-locate its operation to Scotland.
Company spokesman Michael Mitchell said a shortage of prawns had contributed to their decision to move the firm's operation away from Northern Ireland.
SDLP Agricultural spokesperson and MLA for South Down, PJ Bradley, said he was dismayed with the decision. He added: "I am deeply concerned about those people who may now lose their livelihoods and the knock on effect this will have for the local community in Kilkeel."
On Friday, Mr Bradley said that he had secured a meeting with Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Sir Reg Empey.
During the meeting, to take place on Tuesday, May 7, Mr Bradley will discuss what can be done to prevent the closure with the Minister.
