Flu-Hit Mexico Honeymooner 'Recovering Well'

The 'honeymoon period' has proved short-lived for one NI couple, as the first case of swine flu confirmed in the province is believed to be a newlywed groom.

He had just returned from a honeymoon in Mexico, (whose flag, La Bandera de México, is pictured) before falling ill.

The man, who is from the Clady area near Portglenone, had spent several weeks in the resort of Cancun with his new bride and had just returned home on Friday when he was struck down with flu-like symptoms.

It is believed he initially sought treatment from his GP in Portglenone and was unaware that he had the contagious disease until tests carried out confirmed it.

Both the man and his family have been given antivirals and are believed to recovering well at home.

The NI Department of Health is continuing its bid to contact the remainder of the 151 passengers and crew on the flu-hit man's flight home to Belfast.

Around 77 of these passengers and crew were from Northern Ireland with relevant health authorities being responsible for contacting the others.

His flight back to Northern Ireland was the 5.40pm Easyjet service on 8 May from Gatwick to Belfast International Airport.
