Attempted Murders Probed By Police
Two serious assaults at the weekend are being handled as attempted murder cases.
The man - who is in his 20s - was rushed to hospital after being stabbed several times following an argument with three men in Downpatrick.
Police, who are treating the attack as attempted murder, said the man became involved in an argument at Market Street in the town at around 8pm on Saturday.
His condition has been described as serious but stable. Two men were arrested following the attack and are helping police with their enquiries.
Police are also treating an attack on a man in Coleraine on Saturday evening as attempted murder.
The attack occurred in the Harpur's Hill area of the town shortly before 8pm. The man, who is in his 40s, was rushed to hospital where his condition has been described as "serious".
It occurred less than two miles from last weekend's murder of Catholic father-of-four Kevin McDaid and the attempted murder of his neighbour Damien Fleming.
However, Saturday night's attack however is not believed to have been sectarian.
A third incident - in Londonderry - saw a gang of up to seven masked men beat up a teenager after threatening him with a gun on Saturday.
Police said the gang chased two men into a shop in Bracken Park at about 6pm. They dragged a 19-year-old man outside and assaulted him before running off.
