Belfast Stab Victim Named

The man who was stabbed to death in the early hours of this morning has been named.

The police are probing what they say is a murder after the man - who was aged 29 and believed to be homeless - was found in the street in north Belfast.

Named locally as George Morrison, he was found lying on the street in a pool of blood at Brookhill Avenue, north Belfast, shortly before 2.30am.

Police have asked for anyone who noticed a row taking place in the area to contact them. A 46-year-old man has been arrested.

Earlier this year police launched a major drive to cut the number of knife crimes in Northern Ireland

The initiative was aimed at young people in a bid to stop them thinking of a knife as a status symbol to be popped in a pocket before going out.
