NI public pays their respects to Queen Mother
Many people throughout Northern Ireland have observed a two-minute silence in honour of the Queen Mother as her funeral took place at Westminster Abbey in London.
Representing the Northern Ireland public at the funeral were First and Deputy First Ministers David Trimble and Mark Durkan, who were among several politicians from the province at the ceremony. Northern Ireland Secretary John Reid and the Assembly Speaker Lord Alderdice were also present.
Eight Irish Guards, including soldiers from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, were the Queen Mother's pallbearers, flanking the coffin as it was carried on a Royal Artillery gun carriage to Westminster Abbey.
Nine members of the Royal Family walked solemnly behind her coffin as it made its way to Westminster Abbey were a 2,000-strong congregation included the Queen, Prime Minister Tony Blair, America's first lady Laura Bush and several Commonwealth leaders.
The Queen Mother's coffin, which was accompanied by the Prince of Wales, was taken by car to Windsor Castle, for the Royal Family's private interment in a chapel alongside her husband and the ashes of her daughter Princess Margaret.

Northern Ireland’s political leaders pay tribute to Queen Mother
Tributes have been paid to the Queen Mother at the Northern Ireland Assembly, which was recalled from their Easter recess as a mark of respect. The speaker, Lord Alderdice, opened the session and called for a minute’s silence in memory of the Queen Mother, who died at the weekend.

People in Northern Ireland have begun signing books of condolence following the death of the Queen Mother. A book has been opened at St Columb’s Cathedral in Londonderry, and further books are due to be opened at Belfast City Hall, Craigavon Civic Centre and at Hillsborough Castle on Wednesday.

Queen To Visit Northern Ireland Next Month
The Queen is set to visit Northern Ireland during her Diamond Jubilee tour. She and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Enniskillen and Belfast on June 26 and 27 in the tour of the UK, which marks 60 years since she ascended to the throne.

Queen begins Northern Ireland Jubilee tour
The Queen has flown into Northern Ireland today for the start of a three-day tour to mark her Golden Jubilee. Accompanied by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh the Queen will attend a garden party at Loughry College in County Tyrone where around 1,200 people are expected to attend.

Northern Ireland’s best celebrated in Queen’s 2002 honours list
One knighthood is among the Queen’s New Year 2002 Honours List for Northern Ireland. Already holding a CBE, Patrick Armstrong has received a Knighthood for services to the police. Joining the Police Authority in 1991, he became was appointed vice-chairman in 1994 and chairman in 1997.
